So, this is one of those things that I’ve always been super fascinated by, and yet never really got to delve too much into. Kind of one of those “huh, odd but really cool” things that pings in the back of your head without actually registering for what it is.
Icon painting of Kyivan Rus’ and the late medieval period of art in eastern Europe in general have been a long-time interest of mine. I always thought it was fascinating just how different the art in Kyiv and Novgorod was to the contemporary art styles.
Digging into books, annotating articles, sweeping through websites and finding videos or photography of people’s beliefs across Europe and the world is fascinating to me. Russia might have been my gateway into Slavic studies, but I admit nowadays that I want to know more about the lands and cultures that shaped my family and what small beliefs have been passed down through generations to me.
